The Tyranny of a King

Today marks the 16th anniversary of Impossibly Stupid! That may seem like an unusual milestone to note, but long-time visitors will know that the start of this blog coincided with the US Presidential Inauguration, and I've followed that 4 year cycle ever since, even though I haven't had much political content.

This year the date also happens to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The last time those exact days lined up was 1997 (long before the start of this blog), but it is interesting to note that Barack Obama's Second Inaugural Address was given on MLKJD because January 20th fell on a Sunday that year. In his speech, President Obama only mentioned King in passing, but he did also speak this line from which I pulled the title of this post:

The patriots of 1776 did not fight to replace the tyranny of a king with the privileges of a few or the rule of a mob.

To me, much of the rest of his address also resonates on this day. One reason I don't talk politics here is because the stupidity it is awash with is the all-too-possible kind. I plan to continue to post stuff that doesn't have much to do with politics. I hope you'll continue to join me here as I make some tech changes that I really, really hope are going to be the kind of Impossibly Stupid you just can't get elsewhere.
