My comments from the old post still stand. @Jon The better question is whether the cops themselves ever commit criminal acts. There is ample evidence that they do, of course, and that alone is reason enough to deny their desire to go on limitless fishing expeditions, with data or anything else. Only once they excise their own corruption, when they erase the "thin blue line", then they can begin to think about discussing the idea that they should have the ability to backdoor all forms of encryption.
