I would argue that creating a dependency on any single filesystem is a mistake from a data preservation standpoint. That's especially true when it comes to the endless number of "experimental" drivers that have varying levels of support.
What are you *actually* doing that requires support for a filesystem that doesn't come with default, robust support from your OS? Personally, my approach is to keep most metadata processing at the application layer (although I'd include FUSE solutions in that). That way, it can be stored/transferred/used in a portable way by just about any system I have access to (an important factor in times of disaster).
I mean, it's fun and all to screw around with different hardware/software choices, but at some point you have to figure out whether or not the data you have is important and *how* it is important. What are your actual use cases that don't involve trivialities like drive sizes?
