This is why genuine intelligence is important. It doesn't matter whether or not there is traffic in the oncoming lane at the exact moment the car is told to switch. Higher cognition should tell you that there are very few circumstances where it makes sense to have vehicles moving in opposite directions that will be doing so using the same lane. The attack would be particularly effective if it were done just before a divided highway. No matter how great the self-driving software is in regular operation, nobody (outside a testing environment) should be eager to find out what happens when a vehicle is going the wrong way into traffic.

The point you're trying to make is actually the opposite of what the reality of this technology is. One of the big problems with the current approach to machine learning is that the algorithms often over-train on specific pixels in high-resolution images. That's what allows them to be fooled by a few rogue markings on signs or in the road. I've had the experience myself where object recognition was improved when I used blurry, low resolution images that masked minor artifacts and sensor noise.
The fact remains that no human, however sharp their eyesight and dull their wit, would see a few dots and come to the conclusion that it was an indication they should switch lanes at all, let alone into one dedicated to going the reverse direction. If cars still have these flaws, the technology cannot respectably be called AI, and it should not be allowed on the road.
